KING HUSSEIN FOUNDATION
The King Hussein Foundation, chaired by Queen Noor, was established by Royal Decree in 1999. The Foundation is a national and international non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to give meaningful expression to the late King’s humanitarian vision and legacy with emphasis on democracy and peace, education and leadership, environment and health. His Majesty King Abdullah letter to Queen Noor dated 17 March 1999: Your Majesty, I extend to Your Majesty by best wishes, respect and appreciation. His late Majesty King Hussein, God bless his soul, derived his strength from his deep faith, his great heart, his true humanity and noble character. He was most mindful to instill the noble religious, moral and social values in the souls and minds of our dear Jordanian youth. He knew that these values were pivotal in the formation of the character of our society, and its cultural, psychological and social identities. These values are the ultimate assurance for releasing and channeling creative energy toward the common good that contribute to social progress and to augmenting cooperation and tolerance within our society. This consequently leads to greater bonds among our citizens, thereby enhancing national unity by concentrating on objective thinking, beneficial civilized dialogue and unanimity on common denominators in regard of all our national causes. During all this, you where, Your Majesty, the companion of Al-Hussein’s
way, sharing his thoughts, his faith and his constant work for the good of Jordan and
Jordanians. He entrusted you to head the NHF,
where your outstanding efforts in building the Foundation, and your dedication to its
work, are always cherished and respected by our one Jordanian Family, whatever their roots
and origins. Therefore, to fulfill the legacy of the late King, and to continue his legacy
in continuous giving, We saw that a foundation should be established in the Kingdom
bearing his name: “The Foundation of King Hussein / The King Hussein Foundation”
and would designate it to Your Majesty to establish it and head it. This Foundation, Enshallah, will be, with your
patronage, the embodiment of Al-Hussein’s vision, his religious, moral and social
values, which he represented. It will support
and promote sustainable human development and peaceful relations among people, the
protection of the natural environment and will ensure security and social stability. In the fields of activity of the Foundation, it
will perhaps help, in cooperation with other established institutions, to deepen the
values that the late King represented and to develop education to provide incentives for
excellence, and to help in providing health care services and environmental protection as
well as social justice, and raise standard of living for Jordanians for social stability
and national security. On the international level, I would like the Foundation to participate with
Jordanians and its officials to complete Al Hussein’s legacy by building bridges with
the world and lifting Jordan in international milieu on an official and civil level. I designate to Your Majesty this task, which we all hold dear to our hearts, and express my absolute trust in that you are the best person for this task and affirm my complete support to you and to those who will work with you in these important fields. I pray that God will keep you safe. Queen Noor responded to King Abdullah's letter and appointed the Foundation's first board of trustees. Following is the translation of the Queen's letter: Your Majesty King Abdullah, It is with pleasure that I send you my great respect, love and appreciation for
Your Majesty and to thank you for giving me the responsibility of establishing and heading
the King Hussein Foundation, which will immortalize his name, will embody all he believed
in and worked to achieve. The Foundation will
honor his memory, which will remain with us, and in us, and will extend his legacy of high
values, beautiful memories and good deeds. These
deeds will remain as a beacon, whose light will guide us on the road paved by our great
Hussein, the father, the leader and the teacher whom we will never forget. I would like to take this opportunity to share with Your Majesty your point of
view that to be faithful to the King’s memory, we have to work constantly to realize
his vision in all fields, to build on his strong foundations and to deepen his noble and
humane course of life, with all what it entailed from high values, forgiveness,
selflessness, fairness and compassion amongst all people.
The images, which are still very vivid in our minds, of closeness and support
between our people, which he inspired, his incentive to work until the last breath, his
wisdom, courage and sacrifice for his country, reinforcing the human infrastructure, and
his active Arab and international role. Jordan
became, as a result, the center of admiration, respect and trust among Arab brethren and
friends. I would be honored and privileged to carry this responsibility, which you have
given to me. I am full of hope that I will be
able, with Your Majesty’s support and encouragement, to realize all what we aim at
together from the establishment of the King Hussein Foundation. I pray to God Almighty to help me and to continue
this voyage, which I began 21 years ago since my marriage to the dearest and most noble
men. I pray to God to give me the strength to
fulfill the humane message of HM King Hussein and to repay the “favor” to the
Jordanian people, who have overwhelmed me with their warmth and love throughout this
life’s journey, which will go on until God wills it. It is with pleasure that I present to you the names of the Board Members of the

I pray that Allah will grant you an unending source of wisdom, a strong will and guidance, for you are the embodiment of our hope and the noble descendant of our Prophet Mohammed.
