NOOR Al HUSSEIN FOUNDATION

The Noor Al Hussein Foundation (NHF), which came under the umbrella of the King Hussein Foundation on March 22, 2000, initiates and supports national, regional and international projects in the fields of integrated community development, education, culture, children’s welfare, family health, women and enterprise development. The NHF programs have successfully advanced and modernized development thinking in Jordan by progressing beyond traditional charity-oriented social welfare practices to integrate social development strategies more closely with national economic priorities. NHF projects promote individual and community self-reliance, grassroots participation in decision-making and project implementation, equal opportunity with special emphasis on the empowerment of women, and intersectoral co-operation.

NHF’s innovative projects and programs are designed to be applicable throughout the country and often throughout the region. The Institute for Child Health and Development, the Quality of Life Project, the Women-in-Development Project and the National Handicrafts Development Project have received international recognition as development models for the Middle East and the developing world. The Jubilee School, the annual international Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts and the National Music Conservatory have introduced new standards of excellence and dynamism in secondary education, music and cultural interaction, available to Jordanians from all sectors of society.

The NHF can be reached via e-mail at nhf@amra.nic.gov.jo or visit its Web site. Click here for information on the NHF's CD-ROM.
