The NMC established Jordan’s first professional youth orchestra, as well as several diverse ensembles, like the Orchestra of he National Music Conservatory, the Faculty Chamber Ensemble, the Jazz Band, the Arab Music Ensemble, and the Choir. Their performances are a major attraction at Jordan’s annual Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts, the Arab Children’s Song Festival and many other local, regional and international musical events. The Orchestra of the National Music Conservatory combines highly qualified performers from the faculty and advanced students of the NMC. This Orchestra is a continuous workshop and a representative of Jordanian excellence in music locally and abroad. Serious plans are in the process to transform this Orchestra to the National Symphony Orchestra of Jordan. To integrate music appreciation as a fundamental component of children’s education in Jordanian schools, the Ministry of Education commissioned the NMC to develop textbooks, teacher’s manuals and accompanying cassettes for the first five school grades. In cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, the NMC plays a major role in the annual Arab Children’s Song Festival to ensure that children’s songs are based on sound artistic and musical concepts. Since 1993, the NMC has a cooperation agreement with the French Conservatoire National de Region de Boulogne – Billancourt. A joint Jury of both conservatories meet at the end of every academic year to evaluate the performing standards of the advanced students of the NMC. The certificates and diplomas conferred by the jury have the same rights and privileges as the ones conferred in France. The NMC, in cooperation with Silver lake College, Wisconsin – USA, holds every summer the Kodaly Music Study for certified music teachers in the region. The NMC hosts the Secretariat of the Arab Academy of Music (the Arab League) and the NMC is the President of the International Music Council (IMC) until October 2003. PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

Arab Children Congress The annual Arab Children’s Congress was initiated by Her Majesty Queen Noor after the 1980 Arab Summit Conference in Amman. It brings together children from throughout the Arab World in a program designed to promote understanding, tolerance, and solidarity. The Noor Al Hussein Foundation’s Performing Arts Center hosts and organizes this annual event. For the past two decades, children and adults from all over the Arab world have excitedly anticipated the advent of July to celebrate the Arab children’s ingenuity and potential in Amman each year. The Congress gathers talented and enthusiastic children from 14 Arab countries to engage in actively exploring the Congress themes in a series of creative drama and art workshops. The week long conference culminates in a play performed at the closing ceremony with a list of recommendation drawn up by the children that reflect their collective hopes for the Arab region and the world.
The Arab Children’s Congress is recognized in Arab countries as a unique, valuable event of excellence, sustainability and creativity. Due to its impact on Arab solidarity and unity among youth, the Congress was awarded the first prize for Unique Services Offered to Arab Children on a regional level by the Higher Council for Children in the United Arab Emirates in 1997. Another major achievement of the Congress is the Tree of Tolerance, which was exhibited at the entrance of the UNESCO building in Paris during its 50th anniversary celebrations. The Tree was made from clay slabs and ropes, which was produced by the Arab Children in 1995 depicting 15 Arab country’s culture and heritage.
